Parking in the City of West Hollywood: A Guide

Navigating parking in the City of West Hollywood can be simple and convenient once you understand the various options and regulations in the City. The City offers multiple parking solutions tailored to residents, businesses, and visitors, including metered spaces, permit parking zones, and public parking facilities.

Here's everything you need to know:

City-Owned Parking Lots and Garages

The City of West Hollywood operates several public parking lots and garages. These facilities offer hourly and/or daily rates and are often the most reliable option for stress-free parking, especially in high-traffic areas such as the Sunset Strip, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Melrose Avenue.

Key Locations Include:

  • Kings Road Parking Structure – 8383 Santa Monica Boulevard
  • West Hollywood Park 5-Story Structure – 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard (adjacent to West Hollywood Library and West Hollywood Park)
  • Plummer Park Lot – 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard
  • Spaulding Lot – 7718 Santa Monica Boulevard
  • Sunset Strip Lots – Located near major nightlife and dining destinations

These facilities often include EV charging stations, bike racks, and ADA-accessible spaces. Rates vary by location and time of day. Find the full list of City parking lots at www.weho.org/parking.

Parking Meters

The City maintains a wide network of metered parking spots along major streets and commercial corridors.

Key rules to remember:

Meter Hours: Many meters operate Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Some meters operate 7 days a week and until midnight or 2 a.m. in some busy nightlife areas.

Rates & Payment: Rates typically range from $1.00 to $2.00 per hour. Payments can be made via coin, credit/debit card, or the text-to-pay service noted on the meter, which also allows users to extend time remotely via text message.

Tip: Always read the posted signs at each meter for the most accurate information regarding hours, rates, and restrictions. The City of West Hollywood is only 1.9 square miles, bordered by the cities of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills.  Be aware that parking restrictions may vary in those jurisdictions.

Residential Permit Parking

To protect neighborhood parking for residents, West Hollywood uses a permit parking system in designated areas.

How it Works:

Zones: The City is divided into permit districts. Only vehicles with valid permits may park on designated streets during restricted hours.

Types of Permits:

  • Resident Permits: For residents of eligible dwellings and are tied to a specific vehicle by license plate number. Valid for one year based on the District’s renewal cycle.
  • Guest Permits: Permits for guests of eligible residents. Valid for one year and are interchangeable between vehicles.
  • Visitor Permits: Temporary passes for guests of eligible residents. Expire the following day at noon after the expiration date. These are restricted by monthly points. Certain multi-unit addresses do not qualify.
  • Encroachment Permits: For new residents moving into the City or existing residents moving between or leaving the City. Allows for a temporary short-term reservation of the public right of way to assist in the moving process. Permits are typically only valid between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Commercial Permits for Residential Areas: Quarterly permits for eligible businesses and their employees. Allows permit holders to park at specific meters or along predesignated residential streets in areas lacking adequate parking for the business to conduct normal operations.

Applying for a Permit:

Residents can apply online through the WeHo Parking Services Portal, by mail, or in person at the Parking Services counter at City Hall (8300 Santa Monica Boulevard) during normal business hours. Required documents typically include current proof of residency and a valid vehicle registration matching the resident. Visitor permits are available online for residents that have applied via the WeHo Parking Services Portal. Paper visitor permits are also available at the Kings Road Parking Garage 24/7 or during regular business hours at City Hall.
