Oh My Gourd! Floating Pumpkin Patch Makes a Splash in West Hollywood

Who says pumpkin picking has to happen on dry land?

West Hollywood put an aquatic spin on a fall favorite on Sunday, October 25, when the City’s Floating Pumpkin Patch brought seasonal fun to the rooftop of the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center. The family-friendly event invited young pumpkin pickers into the pool to choose a pumpkin straight from the water.

The festive fall event transformed the pool into a playful pumpkin patch, with gourd-geous pumpkins of all shapes and sizes floating alongside ghosts and other seasonal decorations. A vibrant pool-noodle tunnel framed a row-boat lane, while kids of all ages splashed into the fun in search of the perfect pumpkin to take home.

Finding the perfect gourd was part of the adventure. With pumpkins floating in the pool, participants could make their selection while enjoying a swim — giving a familiar Halloween activity a splash of Southern California style. Each chosen pumpkin could head home for decorating, extending the fun beyond the pool deck.

The event paired family pool time with a seasonal outing, offering an opportunity to take festive photos and enjoy an afternoon together ahead of Halloween. From little ones experiencing the floating pumpkin patch for the first time to older kids diving in for their favorite pumpkin, the afternoon was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of Halloween spirit.

In a city known for its creativity, even a pumpkin patch can take an unexpected turn. In the City of West Hollywood, Halloween comes in many forms from neighborhood and family activities to festive community gatherings and, of course, the City’s legendary Halloween Carnaval on October 31 each year.

Call it a little hocus-pocus with a whole lot of splash.
