‘Held by Light’ Installed at Kings Road Park

Public art has a way of surprising us. It can transform an ordinary walk in the park into a moment of discovery, invite us to pause and reflect, or simply brighten the day with an unexpected burst of creativity. That’s exactly the experience visitors will find with Held by Light, a temporary public art installation now on view at Kings Road Park.

Created by LA-based sculptor Alicia Piller, Held by Light is part of the City of West Hollywood’s Art on the Outside program, which brings rotating public art installations to parks, streets, and other public spaces throughout the City.

Designed specifically for Kings Road Park, Held by Light reimagines a familiar park bench as both sculpture and gathering place. The bench features petal-shaped yoga mats that create a soft, welcoming place to sit, while a sweeping floral form arches overhead, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with their surroundings. Built from concrete, metal, wood, photographs, and repurposed materials collected from the neighborhood, the installation comes alive each evening with the soft glow of integrated solar lights.

Piller’s work explores themes of memory, renewal, sustainability, and community. Through its organic forms and layered materials, Held by Light celebrates West Hollywood’s spirit of creativity, inclusivity, and connection.

The City’s Art on the Outside program showcases temporary sculptures, murals, digital artworks, and other outdoor installations throughout the community. Most installations remain on display for six months to three years, creating new opportunities to experience art in everyday places.
