Kids’ Book Festival Brimmed with Stories, Imagination, and Fun

On Sunday, August 23, 2026, a free, daylong celebration brought children’s literature to life with books, authors, activities, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities for kids to discover their next favorite story.

Judging by the smiles, costumes, colorful characters, tents full of books, and enthusiastic young readers filling the park, this was one event where being caught with your nose in a book was highly encouraged.

Held at West Hollywood Park, the Los Angeles Kids’ Book Festival brought together children’s book authors and dozens of vendors for a family-friendly celebration centered on reading, creativity, and storytelling. The event was co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood and produced and organized by the American Born Chinese Foundation.

Throughout the day, West Hollywood Park became something of an enormous outdoor storybook, as children and their grown-ups explored booths, met authors, discovered new books, and celebrated the kind of imagination that can turn a few words and pictures on a page into an entirely new world.

The Festival continued a tradition that began when West Hollywood hosted the first Los Angeles Children’s Book Festival in 2023. From the start, the event was designed to celebrate children’s literature, encourage a lifelong love of reading, and give young readers opportunities to connect with the authors and illustrators who create the stories they love.

Of course, there was an important difference between an ordinary trip to the library and this literary adventure: at the Festival, some of the characters seemed to have escaped from the pages.

The result was exactly the sort of joyful scene one might expect when books are allowed out to play: kids exploring, families reading together, colorful characters roaming the park, authors sharing their work, and plenty of young imaginations running at full speed.

For the City of West Hollywood, the Festival was also a reminder that literacy is about much more than learning to read. Books help young people find new ideas, see themselves represented in stories, develop empathy for experiences different from their own, and discover that curiosity can take them just about anywhere.

After a full day celebrating books at the park, there was only one appropriate ending: they read happily ever after.
