City of West Hollywood Opens Dog Park at Plummer Park

The City of West Hollywood’s newest gathering spot has gone to the dogs, and that’s something to celebrate!

The new dog park at Plummer Park is located on the west side of the park adjacent to N. Vista Street. It began welcoming dogs and their people on Friday, October 9, 2026, followed by a grand opening ribbon-cutting with members of the West Hollywood City Council on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The celebration paired perfectly with the day’s Halloween festivities, including a “Fang-tastic” Pet Zone featuring paw-print keepsakes, pet tarot readings, and a Pet Costume Showcase. Talk about a treat!

Designed for dogs of different sizes and the people who love them, the new dog park features separate, fully enclosed areas for small and large dogs. Double-gate entrances provide protected spaces for leashing and unleashing, while shade sails, seating, and drinking fountains for both people and pets make it easy to settle in for a visit. Decorative laser-cut fence panels add a playful touch, complemented by perimeter lighting and non-toxic, drought-resistant landscaping.

With the opening of the new dog park at Plummer Park, West Hollywood’s canine community now has three parks where dogs can play off leash within the City’s 1.9 square miles. That’s a lot of room for zoomies in a small city and it’s another reason tails are wagging in WeHo.

Whether your canine companion prefers a leisurely sniff or an enthusiastic romp, here’s where to find all three:

  • Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard: Separate small- and large-dog areas feature shade sails, seating, and drinking fountains for two-legged and four-legged visitors. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.‍
  • West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard: Two distinct dog park areas — one for small dogs and one for large dogs — feature trees, shade sails, small mounds, turf terraces, and water stations. Open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.‍
  • William S. Hart Park, 8341 De Longpre Avenue: This long-established neighborhood destination welcomes dogs of all sizes to its shared off-leash play area. Open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Prioritizing animal welfare has long been part of the City of West Hollywood’s community story.

In 1989, the West Hollywood City Council declared the City a “Cruelty-Free Zone” for animals, establishing a commitment that would help shape decades of animal welfare advocacy.

The City of West Hollywood became the first city in North America to ban cat declawing, recognizing the harm caused by a procedure that involves amputating part of a cat’s toes. The City also took a pioneering stand against fur. In 2011, the West Hollywood City Council approved an ordinance prohibiting fur sales, with the ban taking effect in September 2013.

The City’s advocacy has also included taking a stand against puppy mills and supporting California’s Proposition 2, which established protections for certain farm animals confined in restrictive enclosures, because no animals should ever suffer.

Together, these actions have helped make animal welfare a defining part of the City of West Hollywood’s progressive identity. In 2023, the City earned recognition as a Better Cities For Pets™-Certified City for its efforts to help keep people and pets together. The assessment highlighted pet-friendly green spaces, partnerships addressing pet homelessness, pet food assistance for families in need, and emergency preparedness plans that include animal companions.

The new dog park at Plummer Park adds another everyday expression of these values: room to run, opportunities to connect, and a warm welcome for West Hollywood’s canine community.

Plenty of reasons to raise the woof.
