City’s Sacramento Delegation Brings West Hollywood’s Community Voices to Capitol
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the City of West Hollywood led a delegation on a daylong visit to the State Capitol in Sacramento, bringing together Vice Mayor Danny Hang, Councilmember Chelsea Lee Byers, and a representative from each of the City’s Advisory Boards and Commissions.
Organized by the Governmental Affairs team in the City Manager’s Department, the visit reflects the City’s strategic and ongoing approach to monitoring federal and state legislation, engaging in advocacy efforts, and representing the City of West Hollywood’s interests at the regional, state, and federal levels.
Through a series of meetings, the delegation received presentations on the inner-workings of the Capitol and used their platform to amplify West Hollywood’s voice on key legislative priorities while strengthening relationships with policymakers whose decisions directly impact local communities. City representatives highlighted priorities focused on preserving and enhancing quality of life in West Hollywood, including issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community and other vulnerable populations, impacts of federal cuts on social services and public health funding, the state budget, and other hot topics in Sacramento.
Widely recognized for its leadership in LGBTQ+ rights and social justice, the City of West Hollywood works diligently to defend the fundamental rights of its community members including LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, older adults, people of color, immigrants, women, and others. The delegation reinforced the importance of advancing state policies that align with the City’s longstanding core values and legislative priorities, which are established by the City Council and serve as a guide for the City’s advocacy efforts.
The visit underscores the City of West Hollywood’s commitment to direct advocacy and meaningful engagement with state lawmakers. By bringing a cross-section of elected and appointed officials to Sacramento, the City aims to ensure that discussions with legislators reflect diverse lived experiences and subject-matter expertise.
The City of West Hollywood’s 10 Commissions and six Advisory Boards serve as important links between the West Hollywood City Council and the community, advising on a wide range of issues and representing key stakeholder groups. Their participation in the delegation demonstrates the strength of the City’s collaborative governance model and its commitment to inclusive civic engagement. This is the second such trip organized by City staff in response to West Hollywood City Council direction.
In addition to advocating for local priorities at the State Capitol, the City of West Hollywood continues to serve as an active partner in regional and statewide collaboration. The City works closely with the Westside Cities Council of Governments, neighboring municipalities, partner organizations, and county and state agencies to build coalitions around shared goals. The Sacramento visit provided opportunities to reinforce those partnerships and further explore coordinated solutions to challenges facing communities across California.
For more than four decades, the City of West Hollywood has demonstrated that it is unlike any other city in the world. Instilled with idealism, creativity, and innovation, there is a strong spirit of community activism and civic pride that thrives among West Hollywood residents and businesses. That spirit was clearly reflected in Sacramento, where elected and appointed leaders stood together to reaffirm the City’s belief that local voices matter and that meaningful progress is achieved through direct engagement, thoughtful advocacy, and steadfast commitment to representation and inclusion.
