About the City of West Hollywood
The City of West Hollywood was officially founded on November 29, 1984, after a bold coalition of LGBTQ activists, seniors, and renters united to create a city rooted in progressive values and strong protections for tenants.
Forty years later, West Hollywood stands as a powerhouse among small cities, championing innovative public policy and celebrating a thriving LGBTQ community that helps define its global reputation.
Visitors flock from around the world to experience its signature spots, from the Rainbow District on Santa Monica Boulevard to the shopping along Melrose Avenue and Robertson Boulevard to the iconic nightlife on the Sunset Strip.
