A New Beginning on Holloway: West Hollywood Celebrated the Opening of the Holloway Interim Housing Program

The City of West Hollywood opened a new chapter in compassion and care as residents, community partners, and City leaders came together to celebrate the grand opening of the Holloway Interim Housing Program. The event took place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 to celebrate the transformation of the former Holloway Motel at 8464 Holloway Drive into a vibrant center of hope, healing, and housing opportunity.

The festivity featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house hosted by the City of West Hollywood in partnership with Ascencia, the nonprofit organization that operates and manages the program. Guests toured the beautifully renovated property, met staff, and learned how the program will serve people experiencing chronic homelessness with stability, dignity, and care.

“In West Hollywood, our community is grounded in compassion, care, and action — and the Holloway Interim Housing Program reflects the very best of our values,” said Mayor Chelsea Lee Byers during the event. “By transforming the former Holloway Motel, we created not only safe and supportive interim housing, but also a place where people can find services, stability, and hope as they take their next steps toward permanent housing. We’re deeply grateful to our partners at Ascencia, whose expertise and dedication made this work possible.”

The Holloway Interim Housing Program now provides a safe and supportive 90-day stay for individuals transitioning off the streets. Residents receive case management and comprehensive services including housing search support, employment readiness, healthcare and nutrition guidance, financial planning, and community engagement activities — all delivered by Ascencia’s 24/7 team of compassionate professionals.

This achievement was made possible through a $6-million Homekey grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, supplemented by funds from Los Angeles County and the City’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved the acquisition and transformation of the property, reaffirming the City’s steadfast commitment to addressing homelessness with humanity and innovation.

Since 2016, West Hollywood and Ascencia have partnered to provide essential social services and housing pathways. The Holloway stands as a testament to that collaboration and to the City’s long-standing leadership in developing creative solutions for homelessness and housing insecurity.

Rooted in West Hollywood’s values of inclusivity and care, the Holloway Interim Housing Program represents more than a facility, it symbolizes the City’s belief that everyone deserves stability, safety, and the chance to rebuild.
